What is rPET?
rPET is an amazing material, and the main fabric we use in our bras.
PET is short for polyethylene terephthalate (AKA polyester). The "r" is short for "recycled," meaning that our bras are not only stylish and functional, but also environmentally responsible.
Typical water bottles are made from PET (look for a 1 in the recycling logo). Every year, billions of water bottles end up in landfills. If recycled, these water bottles could be spun into billions of yards of rPET fabric, or more than 10 billion Meer bras.
While rPET is more expensive than its virgin counterpart, production of rPET uses 90% less water and 85% less energy than virgin PET. rPET production creates 65% less greenhouse gases and reduces carbon footprint by 75% as compared to virgin PET. rPET fabric production creates clean jobs and drives down our reliance on crude oil.
The process to create rPET is relatively simple and only includes a few steps:
With over 17 million barrels of oil needed to meet our growing demand for PET products, it makes sense to use recycled materials.
Meer has your back (and your front) covered
Since it was founded in 2016, Meer has kept over 100,000 plastic water bottles out of landfills. With your help, we have managed to reduce our global carbon footprint by hundreds of pounds while supporting research into future advances in rPET recycling processes and infrastructure. Your support has allowed us to invest in the health of our global future.
